EMPOWERMENT
NAME : Empowerment DATE : 2002 CLIENT : Lincoln City Council & Altsom Power LOCATION : Lincoln PARTNERS : Gifford Engineering (now Ramboll)
Aim
To create a bold and striking Sculpture to celebrate the millennium, that spans the River Witham in Lincoln’s city centre and act as focal point in this space.
Concept
The sculpture takes its inspiration from the turbine blades, symbolic of the rich engineering heritage of Lincoln.
The theme of empowerment is reinforced by the sculpture’s position in City Square, linking the important ideal of empowerment and the citizen.
Within the work, the cast aluminium turbine blades transform into dynamic figures that reach out to empower one another, just as the blades empower one another within the turbine.
This sculpture stands 16m tall at its highest point.
