NAME : Larkholme Grasslands Bridges   DATE : 2018  CLIENT : Wyre Borough Council  LOCATION : Rossall Ecology Park, Lancashire  PARTNERS : CTS Bridges PRINCIPAL CONTRACTORS : Balfour Beatty

AIM

The three bridges were delivered and installed on site in time for the opening of the Coastal Flood Defence scheme carried out by Balfour Beatty for Wyre Concil in partnership with the Environment Agency.

CONCEPT

The beacons

INSTALLATION

We worked with CTS bridges and their in-house timber specialists to bring the design to realisation - and allow the concept and experience to continue.

“The final bridge designs use 12 No unique spindles to create each 'wave' bay.  The spindles themselves are FSC Ekki - a sustainably sources hardwood timber that is both strong enough to permit the slender spindle sizes whilst maintaining structural adequacy and naturally very durable to suit the marine coastal environment.”

PROCESS

The 11 metre tall grass like sculptures are stencilled with flora, fauna found in the ecology park and these are complimented by three timber totems which stand at 8 metres tall and feature the name of the park in green lettering.

“The tall artworks are way-finders, connecting paths to the promenade and marking pedestrian access points. They also link the Rossall section to the Mythic Coast, an artwork trail based on the folklore and myth surrounding our local coastline.

Visitors to the Mythic Coast can follow an artwork and poetry trail from Cleveley’s seafront, based on the popular children’s book; The Sea Swallow. The story continues to Rossall Point Observation Tower, Cleveley’s seafront
